Difference between Reader and Writer

The two modes of LiquidoDocs Explorer: archive consultation and writing features.

Two modes, one program

LiquidoDocs Explorer can be used in Reader or Writer mode.

Reader mode lets you consult archives without modifying them. Writer mode enables the features needed to create and update BaseArchive archives by adding codes, files, drafts and document revisions.

Reader

To open, consult and read archives without modifying them.

Writer

To create, modify and manage BaseArchive archives.

Reader mode

Reader mode is designed for users who need to consult LiquidoDocs archives without changing the data. It is useful when an archive must be distributed, checked or opened by users who need to read codes, descriptions, revisions and associated files without modifying the content.

  • Open existing LiquidoDocs archives.
  • Consult codes, descriptions and associated information.
  • View document revisions and associated files.
  • Open the files contained in the archive, when available for consultation.

Writer mode

Writer mode enables archive management features. It is designed for users who need to create codes, add files, work on drafts and publish new revisions with updated document content.

  • Create new codes or new items to use as document containers.
  • Edit descriptions and information associated with codes.
  • Create and manage working drafts with associated files and information.
  • Promote a draft to a new revision, preserving the files linked to that version.
  • Manage tags, families and choices associated with archive items.

Writer license

Writer features require an active license.

Without a Writer license, LiquidoDocs Explorer can still be used to consult archives in Reader mode. The license is only needed to enable archive creation and editing, including codes, drafts, revisions and associated files.
